Israel | February 18,2012- Israel Attack Timeline Is Delayed
The United States policy toward Iran is to continue to use economic sanctions to force Iran to stop its Nuclear program. Certainly this approach is wrapped around President Obama's desire to not start a new war in the Persian Gulf prior to the U.S. Presidential elections. This approach is not sufficient to satisfy Israel however. Israel has announced that they could use military force to destroy Iranian nuclear processing facilities. The U.S. and Israel policy got a jolt two weeks ago Iran's chief religious figure, Khameini, that a "Great Event" was to take place that would cause the defeat of the United States. One week after that Ahmadinejad announced that Iran was about to announce very significant advances in their nuclear program. These announcements from Iran insinuated that Iran could be way ahead of schedule and they may already have developed a nuclear weapon. This would mean that the U.S. and Israel were both too late to stop Iran.
It had been reported that just this last week that Israel had covertly moved ships into the Arabian Sea, just oustide the Strait of Hormuz, that could be used to target Iran with Jericho missiles fired from Israel. Then something curious happened. Iran's announcement of its nuclear program's progress turned out to be a lot less than promised. Iran announced it could make its own fuel rods now. While this demonstrated an advance in the program it also demonstrated that Iran had a long way to go before achieving the development of a nuclear weapon. This announcement probably helps Ahmadinejad since the Iranian Parliamentary elections happen next month but it also demonstrates to Israel that a military strike can be held off for awhile now. This article makes the case that tensions in Israel have abated somewhat.
